Opened Soda Never Spoils??????

Everyone is guilty of it...I know I am...of buying perishable food items, and promptly forgetting about them for a few years...you know the ones in the very back of the shelf with so much dust on them that an archaologist would have a field day? One interesting note in this guide is that it claims that an opened can of soda never spoils, but an unopened one does. So does that mean I should open every can when I get home from the store? :P
