For those of you who actually took the time to read the previous two links concerning Sony's use of rootkit technology and the fact that they are spying on you and lying about it please read the following link. Doordolt sent me this link this morning and I swear to got I nearly spit fire when I read the headline. It was only a matter of time. This was fast. Faster than normal.

Ok, Sony sucks. So, if I've used a Sony CD on my computer, they installed spyware? What should I do about it? Also, is there any way that Sony will be held accountable? I'm sorry, I'm dumber about technology, and dumber in general today than usual.
Well Sony released an applet in the wake of all the bad press that allows you to see if the rootkit is installed on your computer. However it does not allow you to remove the rootkit. Not only that but I read one article (the validity of which is unconfirmed) stating that this applet may actually add the rootkit in (at least part of it) if it isn't already there and can just make the whole thing worse. Sony will be held accountable to some degree. What they have done is illegal in almost every state and every North American and European nation.
Bottom line, is that sony, and others are really trying to cheat fair use. I should not have to watch the stupid nag screens on DVD's I purchase...but they are there.
