Whether the people who use the phrase realize its racist roots or not the people who coined it did and the fact that the phrase exist is no unfortunate coincidence.
Also, take into account the White Supremacist's "14 Words." It is a quote from founding member of "The Order" David Lane.
"We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."
If you remove the word "white" I'm pretty sure I've actually heard Palin say almost exactly this. I've been googling like mad to find it quoted or cited somewhere but I haven't had any luck. If anyone else heard it let me know.
Whether Palin or the RIght Wing talking heads are racists or not is irrelevant. Certain words arranged into particular patterns have histories and meanings beyond what was literally uttered. They should be condemned for not avoiding those phrases nearly as much as they should be condemned for using them on purpose. One option is willfull and mean and the other is neglectful and irresponsible.
